Today I’m starting at the end. The end. In American newspaper and magazine newsrooms, reporters traditionally wrote -30- at the bottom of an article to indicate the conclusion of a piece. The origins of its use are hidden in the shadows of history. A short article published in Time magazine on April 4, 1932, compiled several theories. One suggests early telegraph operators had a code for brief comments, including “30,” which stood for “End of item.”That one resonates with me the most.
