Calgary's downtown Suncor Energy Centre office complex is set for $90-million in renovations and upgrades, including a performing arts centre and a food hall, to reposition the property into a mixed-use destination. Brookfield Properties and ARCI announced Friday the massive redevelopment plan, which will also include a restaurant, landscaped terrace and mix of public and private amenities into a reimagined indoor-outdoor gathering space at the base of the centre’s two premier office towers.

“We're stepping gingerly into a recovery.” That was the message from MSCI head of real estate economics Jim Costello as he opened Tuesday's Global Property Market conference in Toronto. “We've gone through a tremendous down period in returns, investment volume and activity, so where we get to on the other side of this is still a little bit unknown," he told the audience at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Three private investors are spending $197.5 million to purchase the Norgate Apartments from KingSett Capital and Starlight Investments in the Montreal borough of Saint-Laurent, in what broker JLL calls the biggest multifamily transaction in Quebec this year in price and unit count. The deal includes 1,108 units in 74 low-rise, walk-up buildings at 1200-1600 Décarie and 1205-1595 Ouimet streets. It translates to an average of $178,250 per unit. The cap rate is 5.38 per cent.
