Last summer I put together an episode of Maximum Rock N Roll Radio that was broken up into five sections by record label. I figured it was a cool way to present what some of my favorites had recently put out or had coming out soon. One of the labels I chose based off of the strength of bands like TOTAL CON and INNUENDO was Milwaukee’s Unlawful Assembly.

Anyone familiar with Buffalo’s SCIENCE MAN knows they’re far more than your average hardcore punk band. Mastermind John Toohill’s brand of maniacal and eccentric hardcore has pushed the limits of the genre in both audio and visuals, as each of the last two LP’s have been released alongside full-length video projects that add to the overwhelming and surreal experience.

The summer months are right around the corner and as temperatures continue to rise in tandem with stress and tension from the current political and economic climate, a good old pissed off punk record is more than welcome. NYCs PYREX dropped their excellent second LP Body last month and it can’t be recommended enough. Stuffed to the brim with catchy hooks, wild vocals, and razor sharp riffs, PYREX layers their brand of punk rock ’n’ roll with a splash of demented energy typically found in the music of garage punk mutants like TY SEGALL and OSEES. Songs like “Face Off”, “Nerve Ends”, and “Reflex” had me going back for a second listen the minute the tracks ended.
