QUEENSLAND livestock transporters have unveiled a new purpose-built trailer to help the industry better respond to emergencies in the more populated areas of the state. With hundreds of cattle trucks heading into the south-east corner of Qld each week to service some of the country’s biggest processors, the need for purpose-built equipment to safely unload cattle in emergencies was raised to the Livestock & Rural Transporters Association of Queensland.

SALEYARD prices have jumped significantly this week, with the benchmark Eastern Young Cattle Indicator hitting highest price this year at 739c/kg carcase weight. The EYCI crossed 700c/kg carcase weight yesterday, before opening today at 724c. The indicator reached 739c at one point today, which is its highest price since January this year when it reached 725c.

AUSTRALIA has been declared a “low risk” country in the European Union’s ban on the import of goods linked to deforestation, meaning beef being exported to the EU will have a simplified due diligence process. The new regulations in the EU have been on the table for years and, after a few delays, they are expected to come into force at the end of this year – meaning cattle entering feedlots in July are likely to need to comply.

Required by the Clean Water Act, it allows Perpetua Resources to discharge dredged materials and fill into streams as it builds its Stibnite project east of Cascade and near the tiny town of Yellow Pine.
