Sophomore pitcher Jackson Flora of the UC Santa Barbara baseball team has been invited to the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp in Cary, N.C., this summer. Flora is the fourth Gaucho pitcher in three years to receive an invitation from USA Baseball. He follows Matt Ager and Hudson Barrett in 2023 and Tyler Bremner last summer. Ager and Bremner were selected to the national team roster.

The UC Santa Barbara Women’s Basketball team experienced something for the first time in over eight years on Saturday: a home loss against Cal Poly. The visiting Mustangs drew and converted an and-one inside the final five seconds to take a 51-50 lead, which would go down as the final score. Skylar Burke led the Gauchos in scoring with 11 points on the night, while Zoe Borter was Santa Barbara’s leading rebounder, hauling in a career-high nine boards on the night.

The UC Santa Barbara Baseball team announced its 2025 schedule on Tuesday. The reigning Big West Champion and 2024 NCAA Regional Host Gauchos will play a 53-game slate leading up to The Big West Championship in this, their 14th season under Head Coach Andrew Checketts. The season features eight games against teams that made the 2024 NCAA Tournament, seven of which will be played in Santa Barbara.

The 2025 UC Santa Barbara Men’s Volleyball schedule is set, head coach Rick McLaughlin announced Tuesday. The Gauchos’ 27-game slate begins with the ASICS Invitational, Jan. 9-11, and features 15 total home matches, highlighted by matchups with defending national champions UCLA and national finalists Long Beach State in the Thunderdome. Single-game tickets for all 15 of Santa Barbara’s home matches are on sale now.

The No. 14 UC Santa Barbara Men’s Water Polo team nearly mounted another second-half comeback against No. 8 Long Beach State on Friday, but it was not to be this time around and the Gauchos fell, 12-9, in the first round of The Big West Championship. Luke Bachler scored a hat-trick and added an assist to lead Santa Barbara’s attack, while Adam Gyenis added two more goals in his final game in Blue and Gold to end his career as the eighth-highest scorer in Gaucho Water Polo history (160).

The UC Santa Barbara Men’s Soccer team handed a familiar opponent a familiar result on Saturday night, handing UC Irvine a 2-1 defeat in the Big West Semifinal for the second time in three years. Andrew Kamienski scored his first career goal, then Isaiah Barber tapped home the game-winning goal with just under 10 minutes left to play. “The goal notwithstanding, because that kind of came out of nothing, I thought we dominated the second half,” UCSB head coach Tim Vom Steeg said.

The UC Santa Barbara Men’s Soccer team battled valiantly despite having just 10 men on the field for 87 minutes of Saturday night’s match at UC Riverside, but the Gauchos could not overcome the numerical disadvantage and fell, 2-0, to the Highlanders. The loss and results elsewhere in The Big West give UC Santa Barbara second place in the conference standings, meaning the Gauchos will host one of The Big West Semifinals on Saturday, Nov. 9.

Despite having eight different players on the scoresheet, the No. 14 UC Santa Barbara Men’s Water Polo team just could not get anything to go their way on Friday night in La Jolla, falling to No. 13 UC San Diego, 16-8. The result ends a streak of seven consecutive victories over the Tritons, with the Gauchos’ last loss to UC San Diego coming all the way back in 2014. Eight different players scored for Santa Barbara on Friday night, but the Gauchos could not keep pace with the hosting Tritons.

The UC Santa Barbara Men’s Soccer team continued its home unbeaten streak on Saturday, settling for a 1-1 draw with Cal State Fullerton despite playing the final 35 minutes with just 10 men. Alexis Ledoux scored his 14th goal of the season to put the Gauchos ahead in the first half, but an 88th minute equalizer denied Santa Barbara what would have been a famous victory. The result, combined with results elsewhere in the conference does still secure the Gauchos a berth in The Big West Championship.

The No. 16 UC Santa Barbara Men’s Water Polo team pushed No. 9 UC Irvine through four periods of overtime on Saturday but did eventually fall, 14-13, to the defending Big West Champions. Levi Lentin was tremendous despite the result, making a career-high 17 saves, including stopping both of the Anteaters’ five-meter penalty shots in the game. Dom Brown and Danilo Dragovic each scored clutch goals late on and were two of the five Gauchos to tally multiple scores on the day.
