Warmer Weather Ahead

After a cold start, it has turned into a beautiful spring day today. Sunshine continues this evening with temperatures in the upper 50s to low 60s. A few passing clouds and possible light sprinkles roll through late tonight and very early tomorrow morning. Weather dries out for the afternoon Thursday as even warmer temperatures move in.

Sunshine has moved in as a pretty nice stretch of weather kicks in for CNY the next few days. Today's highs climb into the upper 50s to low 60s, but by tonight we dip down into the 30s. Some spots could cut it close for frost in the highest of elevations, but a decent westerly wind could prevent frost from forming. Tomorrow sees similar temperatures to today, but with much less cloud cover. Plenty of sun throughout the day and still a decent westerly breeze.
Utica Zoo hosting 'Party for the Planet' Saturday

UTICA, N.Y. -- The Utica Zoo is partnering with the New York Power Authority to host a "Party for the Planet", this Saturday April 26, in celebration of Earth Day. The party will be at the zoo, and at the John S. Dyzon Energy Zone from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.At both locations will be several activities to promote positive choices for the health of the planet through sustainable living. You can attend all of the activities with typical admission to the zoo.
Hummingbirds Likely Reaching CNY in Next Few Days

UTICA, N.Y. -- Hummingbirds, like other birds, migrate to spend the winter months in warmer climates. Every year, bird watchers eagerly anticipate their arrival, and typically, hummingbirds begin to reach the Mohawk Valley in late April and Early May. This year, hummingbirds are arriving earlier than usual. With the latest sightings reported south of Buffalo, and north of Albany as of April 22. This could be attributed to the sudden warm-up after such a long and cold winter in the northeast.

Rain showers return again this evening as a cold front approaches from the west. Unlike other cold fronts, this one becomes stationary south of CNY, meaning that instead of a cooldown, temperatures remain somewhat average in the upper 50s to low 60s the next few days. Rainfall chances mostly end, with increasing sunshine for Earth Day, and more sun on Wednesday. Tuesday night, we are keeping a close eye on frost potential.

A warm one today for Good Friday! Temperatures reached the 60s across the area, and although we started out with plenty of sun, clouds have continued to roll in with even some isolated shower potential. Rainfall chances lower tonight as a strong south wind kicks in and overnight lows only bottom out in the low 60s to upper 50s. Saturday will feature on and off rain, with the best chances in the late morning, followed by another round in the mid to late evening.

Bountiful sunshine today as high pressure keeps weather quiet in New York State this Thursday. Still, strong winds from the northwest are persistent, so feels-like temps are about 5-10 degrees cooler than the actual highs today in the upper 40s to low 50s. Clear skies tonight make way for temperatures to fall below freezing by early tomorrow morning. Early sunshine turns to increasing clouds throughout the morning and afternoon, as a warm front brings temperatures into the 60s tomorrow.

Winter is giving its final push today, as temperatures feel very cold and winds remain strong. Lake-effect snow and sleet are falling in parts of the area as well. Snow winds down tonight and cloudy skies persist until mid-tomorrow morning. Sunshine works in, but temps still remain on the cooler side with strong winds continuing on. Highs in the 40s.

Lake-effect has continued to weaken today, with sunshine peeking in between the cloud bands. This is driven by a south wind, cutting off cold and moisture from the northwest. Weather looks quiet and mostly clear tonight. Lows fall into the low 20s. Be on the lookout for a colorful sunrise tomorrow, as low pressure moves in from the southwest. High level clouds arrive initially in the morning, and could be in just the right position for vibrant morning colors.
Snow and Wind Gradually End Tonight

Winter has made its return today. Cold, wind, and snow across the area. Wind chills have remained in the single digits to mid-10s for much of Upstate New York. Cellular pockets of snow will shift into more isolated bands of snow coming off of Lake Ontario. Lake-effect snow tapers off tomorrow afternoon, as we briefly climb above freezing in the evening and skies clear.
