In the case of Lenovo's Yoga Slim 9i 14 Gen 10 ($1,999.99 as tested), the lure is knockout looks, drop-dead design, sex on wheels. This thing costs a mint and is shamefully short on ports, but it's one of the most gorgeous ultraportable notebooks you can buy.

Even Donald Trump's tariffs don't fluctuate like the prices on Dell's lowest-priced laptops do. When we started our review, the Inspiron 15 (3535) was a thrifty $249.99 with an AMD Ryzen 3 processor, or $299.99 with a Ryzen 5. But after a week, the former model jumped to $379.99, and our Ryzen 5 test unit to $449.99.

Lenovo makes so many laptops that we're used to seeing the company split hairs between model lines, but the ThinkPad X9 14 Aura Edition (starts at $1,239; $1,519.01 as tested) in particular deserves a double-take—maybe even a triple. For one, it's aimed at small and mid-size businesses, which have traditionally been ThinkBook territory, while the ThinkPad brand sticks to the corporate enterprise.

Between the two kinds of 2-in-1 laptops, Asus has content creators covered either way. The Asus ProArt PZ13 we reviewed in December 2024 is a detachable tablet-plus-keyboard combo, while the ProArt PX13 seen here ($1,699.99) takes the more mainstream flip-and-fold convertible approach.

For several years, we've contended that the contest for "best laptop you can buy, period" comes down to Lenovo's ThinkPad X1 Carbon versus Dell's XPS 13, with the former winning because it's a bit lighter and has more convenient ports. That's truer than ever with the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 13 Aura Edition, but so is what we said about the Gen 12 version of the Carbon last year—the new Carbon's price ($1,999 for the base model, as tested) will give you a nosebleed.

Asus' sales pitch for the ProArt PZ13 ($1,099.99) says it's for "active creators" who want to take AI outdoors, which sounds as swell as taking a hike to induce an allergy attack. But seriously, if you look past the Copilot+ AI hype, the PZ13 is a winning spin on the detachable laptop tablet-plus-keyboard formula, priced hundreds below its Microsoft Surface Pro 11 competition.

What's one way to charge more than $1,000 for a laptop in this day and age? Slap an "AI" sticker on it. Acer is not the only offender—looking at you, Microsoft, forcing your Copilot key onto keyboards—but the company has enthusiastically boarded the bandwagon with the Swift 14 AI AMD (starts at $1,199.99; $1,299.99 as tested), a notebook with a squiggly symbol on the touchpad that lights up when you use an AI app. Artificial hoopla aside, the Swift is a capable ultraportable laptop.
