The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill on Wednesday to speed permits for exports of natural gas, a measure that even if passed by the Senate and signed into law by President Barack Obama, is not expected to help bring much new fuel to global markets. Lawmakers voted 277 to 133 to approve the bill, sponsored by Republican Bill Johnson of Ohio, that would force the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to decide within 30 days on applications to export liquefied natural gas (LNGLF), or LNG.

Swedish shipping company Erik Thun A.B. has granted Shipyard Ferus Smit the order for building an LNG powered cargo vessel, with two more units on option. The first vessel will be delivered in autumn 2015 from the yard in Westerbroek, Groningen. The Thun shipping company has a strong market position in Northern Europe and the Baltic area. To further strengthen her position as ‘green’ fleet with the new SECA rules coming into force in 2015 for the Baltic, Thun believes LNG will be the way forward.

Houston-based LNG fuel supply and distribution company LNG America LLC announced today that it has contracted Jensen Maritime, Crowley Maritime Corp.'s Seattle-based naval architecture and marine engineering company, to design the initial bunker/shuttle barge for its U.S. Gulf Coast operations.

The keel laying of the world’s first LNG hybrid barge took place at a ceremony held at the SAM Shipbuilding & Machinery shipyard in Komárno, Slovakia. In the presence of representatives of the shipyard, AIDA Cruises, Becker Marine Systems and Hybrid Port Energy (a subsidiary of Becker Marine Systems and the barge shipping company), the laying of the keel was carried out following the tradition of placing a coin on the keel block prior to lowering the first section.

Vitol will supply Egypt with nine LNG cargos for two years starting June 2015, an Egyptian oil ministry statement said on Thursday. The statement said the ministry was also finalizing talks with BP over a deal to supply the country with 21 LNG cargoes. The latest contracts were part of a highly sought-after tender to buy 75 LNG cargoes.
