    In the midst of a competitive Democratic Party mayoral primary race in New York City, two of the candidates veered off the campaign trail for a trek down the red carpet. New York City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams and New York City Comptroller Brad Lander were two of the standout politicians and political figures to attend Monday night’s Met Gala. Absent though were New York City Mayor Eric Adams and former Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who have attended in recent years.

    Last year was a lime green-tinted “Brat Summer,” referring to Charli XCX’s “Brat” album – a trend politicians jumped on (and made a lot less cool). After Lorde’s recent performance of her new single, “What Was That,” in Washington Square Park, and the release of her music video for the song that featured footage from around New York City, this year could be “Lorde Summer.” However, politicians and city government wasted no time in claiming the early song of the summer contender.

    In the March 24 game of "Jeopardy," a $1,200 Double Jeopardy clue read: “Eric Adams is fond of saying, ‘All my haters become my waiters when I sit down at the table of’ this.” Host Ken Jennings responded to the motivational slogan with some confusion: “Yes, a puzzling proverb from Mayor Adams.” While the mayor’s odd phrases are old hat at City & State, they found a new audience on "Jeopardy" – and greater attention for our corner of New York politics.

    The lieutenant governor doesn’t have that much power anyway (unless, you know) – so why not have some fun with the pick? While there is serious speculation about who might succeed Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado as the No. 2 on the Democratic ballot in 2026, City & State has some more chaotic ideas that have no basis in fact. If the governor is looking for a No. 2 with legal experience to better fight back against the Trump administration, there’s a former U.S. attorney on the couch next to her.
