    MARTINSBURG - The District 6, Area 1 Junior League baseball tournament got underway on Monday, and it was host Martinsburg starting things off with a bang, as it defeated Jefferson County 14-0 in the opening game. It was all Martinsburg from the beginning, as it scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back, getting three more runs in the third inning and eight more in the fifth inning.

    SHEPHERDSTOWN — Monday’s game against Funkstown Post 211 wasn’t just the start to the 2025 season for Berkeley Post 14’s Senior American Legion team, but it was also the start of a long week that includes five contests in six days. The season and week got off to a good start, as Post 14 defeated Post 211 6-3 in a game played at Fairfax Field on the campus of Shepherd University. The Hornets led from the start, jumping ahead 3-0 after scoring three runs in the top of the second.

    CHARLESTON – Hedgesville’s impressive playoff run came to a close on Friday evening in the Class AAAA state baseball tournament, as the fourth-seeded Eagles fell 5-3 to top-seeded Hurricane. Early on, it was Hedgesville (22-11) looking to jump on top, as it loaded the bases with just one out. Landon Pence started things off with a single to left field, which was followed by two more singles from Mason Elliott and Trenton Knieriem to load the bases.

This is only *** reenactment of the airborne invasion which centered around the tiny town of Saint Marylees, but 40 years after D-Day, the planes, the billowing shoots, and the silhouettes of all those boys do trigger memories for those who flew these skies that dark, dangerous morning.
