Jillian Ondrick, a highly touted junior transfer pitcher, has joined the Weymouth High softball team. Ondrick, who is committed to South Carolina, had impressive pitching and hitting stats at Archbishop Williams. Ondrick's presence is expected to elevate the play of her teammates, including shortstop Bella Pires and catcher Paige Sellon. Five different local athletes placed in individual events at the New England championships, led by North Quincy's Maddy McGillicuddy, who was fourth in the 600 meters. Oliver Ames' Lavender Kozaka (eighth in the long jump), Cardinal Spellman's Annaikiah Donahue-Wilfred (10th in the long jump), Middleboro's Mia Lee-Bowens (12th in the high jump) and Notre Dame Academy's Shaelyn Taylor (25th in the 55m hurdles) also starred at New Englands.

Brockton's Lucas Andrade was the area's most decorated athlete, earning All-American honors by finishing third in the 60-meter hurdles at New Balance Nationals Indoor. He also swept the 55m hurdle crowns at the New England championships, the MIAA Meet of Champions and Division 1 states.

Standing behind the bench for the Notre Dame Academy hockey team, John Findley set the bar awfully high. Now it's someone else's turn to try to clear it. Findley has retired as the Cougars coach, ending a terrific seven-season run at the all-girls school during which NDA was a perennial powerhouse and made two state championship games. "At 63 years old and after 35 years of coaching high school sports, it's time to go," Findley said Thursday. "It's a younger person's job.
