HARTINGTON - A northeast Nebraska city is seeing movement on some much-needed housing. City and state officials joined developers Friday in Hartington for a ground-breaking of the new Nordby Housing Project. The 12-unit development will feature rent-to-own homes built near Highway 84 on the east side of town. City leaders said Friday they hope the development will provide opportunities for not only new residents to Hartington, but also those who've called Cedar County home for decades.

NORFOLK - This time of year, kids are getting a bit of cabin fever, and an event in Norfolk got hundreds of kids outside to burn off some of that excess energy. The 43rd-annual Norfolk Youth Track Meet was held at the Johnny Carson Field on Friday. The event is organized by the Norfolk Kiwanis Club. It's designed to get kids up to 6th grade involved in track - with field events, sprint and hurdle races, and even a 400-meter run.

NORFOLK - At one of the biggest track and field meets in Nebraska, small schools were the stars of the show. The 31st Annual Norfolk Track Classic was held at the Johnny Carson Field in Norfolk. The invite-only meet features athletes from all six classes competing against each other. Some of the smallest schools came away with the most impressive performances. West Holt set new meet records in both the boys and girls 4x400 meter relays.

Wayne State hires Briar Cliff coach to helm women's program

WAYNE - A Nebraska native is returning to his home state to take over the women's basketball program at Wayne State College. College officials announced Wednesday that Brian Ortmeier has been tabbed as the 12th coach in program history. Ortmeier comes to the Wildcats from NAIA school Briar Cliff, where he was 80-24 in three seasons. This past season he led the Chargers to the NAIA national semifinals. Prior to his arrival Briar Cliff had never won a conference title in women's basketball.

Former Wayne State Coach headed to Norfolk

NORFOLK - A former college coach is heading to high school to take over at a Class A school. Norfolk Public Schools announced Thursday that Brent Pollari has been named head coach of their girls basketball program. Pollari comes to the Panthers after spending seven seasons as head coach of the Wayne State women's program, where he was 75-103. He has 25 years of coaching experience at every level of college basketball, and at the high school and middle school levels.
