You might have woken up to some shaking this morning as another earthquake hit off the east coast of Vancouver Island. According to Earthquakes Canada it was a 3.8 magnitude quake and happened at a depth of 57 kilometers about midway between the island and the mainland. They don’t expect any damage, and a tsunami warning has not been issued. The US Geological Survey reports that the quake was felt as far north as Parksville and south as Sooke.

The most significant damage from the wildfires in the Town of Jasper is said to be on the west side, southwest of Miette Avenue. According to Parks Canada, as of 4:30 p.m. yesterday, all critical infrastructure in the community has been protected including the hospital, emergency services building, the schools, the activity centre and the wastewater treatment plant. However, some homes and businesses have been lost.

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WMBF) - The proposed route for Interstate 73 is closer to being added to Horry County’s official index map, after the passage of a second vote Tuesday night to do so. Horry County Council heard from property owners in the proposed pathway of the yet-to-be-funded billion-dollar thoroughfare. It also comes ahead of a countywide referendum in November on whether to initiate the Ride 4 tax, which would fund road projects including I-73.

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - An Aynor daycare is scrambling to find a solution to stay in business after they received notice they have to vacate their current home in less than a month. Salem Baptist Church Daycare Center has been told to shut down by the end of July after nearly 40 years in business. The center which is open inside a building owned by the church, has been run by Kimberly Hucks.

A Campbell River swimmer completed an Iron Man Distance triathlon over the weekend to raise money for charity. Ricky Millns is a student at the University of Victoria where he swims for the UVIC Vikes and last month he decided he wanted to help raise money for the Campbell River Head Injury Support Group. His plan to fundraise? Do an Iron Man triathlon without any prior training.
