Dear Eric: I have a friend who helps me by driving me to out-of-town doctor appointments. I’m old enough to be her mother. She is disabled and on a small income. I’m blessed with a healthy retirement income. I have gifted her several items. Recently, I got her a TV for her bedroom. A week passed and I asked what she did with the smaller one I gave her. She said, “Oh, I sold it for 30 bucks.” I was floored. I paid $200 for it. Now, I want to say to her that my gift-giving days are over.

The wife recently called me to tell me she wants a divorce and has proof of him hanging out with single females.

Dear Eric: My husband and I have friends who complain about just about everything. The speaker system isn’t good enough, so they won’t go to the theater; any meal out gets a complaint; the bed in our mountain home was too high; the meal I served wasn’t hot enough. On and on it goes. They are neighbors and we’re in some groups together, so it is hard to drop them. The woman has asked if I still like her and why we don’t see as much of each other.

Dear Eric: My parents are in their late 80s, and I feel very fortunate they live independently and are financially secure. However, my mother has developed a mania for travel over the past few years which has caused my sister and me a lot of stress. This year alone, she’s taken five international cruises and at least as many domestic trips. My mother has mobility issues and was diagnosed with cognitive decline, and her doctor advised her against solo travel.
