Catherine Cortez Masto, D-Nev., pressed U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Tuesday about President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs plan, challenging the idea that the administration would be able to hit a Wednesday midnight deadline while negotiating with 50 countries and without a better plan to handle the negative effects on U.S. tourism.

Politics Apr 8, 2025 12:26 PM EDT U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer told senators on Tuesday that there was “no particular timeline set” for tariffs negotiations, less than 24 hours before President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs were set to take effect. Trump announced the tariffs plan last week in an event he called “Liberation Day,” saying they were aimed at resolving a longtime trade deficit with partners around the world.
