You can watch as many anime series as you like, but you probably will never see anything like Serial Experiments Lain. Even though the series is nearing its 30th anniversary β€” it originally premiered in 1998 β€” it features themes that are relevant to this day, especially now that AI has become a part of our everyday life. If you missed it or felt like giving it a rewatch, MVM has excellent news. The series is getting a Blu-ray release on September 15.

In 2004, a peculiar series took the anime world by storm. Investigative stories can be compelling on their own, but Paranoia Agent brought something extra to the genre that still gives fans chills. However, the series was released at a time when anime wasn't nearly as popular as it is today, which means that it flew off the radar of many potential fans.

It's hard to believe, but it's already been over a decade since Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works took the world by storm. The anime series became the type of phenomenon that you had to be there to fully understand, and going back and rewatching makes a full set of emotions resurface in the hearts and minds of fans of the saga. Luckily for them, MVM is releasing the series on Blu-ray format, and you won't have to wait too long for it: the special edition hits shelves on August 4.

Anime is an ever-growing entertainment medium that will be around for a long time. It wasn't always like that, though, and when Japanese art was establishing itself in the Western side of the world back in the late 90s and early aughts, several niche titles ended up forgotten as the years passed. One of those titles is Ergo Proxy, a 2006 series that mixed a cyberpunk setting with philosophical elements, the same way that masterpieces like Blade Runner did.
