York Building Products is scheduled to come before the Appeals Board of Cecil County for the fourth time on June 23, 2025 for their Special Exception #4302. York will have paid their experts to come up with favorable results for them. Every move we have tried to make, the county has shut us down while letting York present power points with no time limits on speaking. Not us! Sometimes it is hard to tell if we are fighting York Building Products or Cecil County Zoning.

Will Andy Harris Stand Up for Due Process Rights? As the one Republican U.S. Representative from Maryland, what is Andy Harris doing to speak out against the illegal imprisonment of Maryland resident Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia in a foreign prison by the Trump administration? We should all be concerned about the lack of due process illustrated by this case. Mr. Garcia came to the U.S. seeking asylum.

The comments Darlene McCall made in her Cecil Whig Letters to the Editor last fall (November 29 and December 6, 2024) had particular resonance for us in the opposite end of the county: different issue but similar concerns to actions by the Board of Appeals. Several attempts have been made to develop a PUD (Planned Unit Development) at the property on the corner of Barksdale and Valley Roads, but until last year, have been unsuccessful because of sound decision making by the Planning Commissions.

Anyone can stop a war by conceding everything valuable. Trump seems to think he will be a hero by stopping the Russian war on Ukraine by giving in to Russia. That would be a dreadful diplomatic failure and history would judge him extremely harshly if he did it. Everyone wants the war to end, but no one should want Putin to win when Russia invaded Ukraine. This administration’s abysmal handling of the Russian invasion of Ukraine will take two LTEs to illuminate.

The town of Charlestown wrote a great letter to the Cecil County Appeals Board about York Building Products’ Special Exception #3402 to change their zoning from Northern Agricultural Residential to mining. Our concern group is so thankful for Perryville’s and Charlestown’s support. One of the main issues that Charlestown addressed was their water aquifer. It is recharge from the surrounding area including where York wants their Special Exception to do mining.

There is a pervasive misunderstanding by Americans of what USAID is and does. First, it should be pronounced as five letters, not US “aid.” It is the US Agency for International Development. It is not an “aid” organization. It does aid many people all over the world, but the purpose of USAID is to increase US power all over the world. Two countries that do not allow USAID programs are China and Russia.

Perfluoroalkyl and poly-fluoroalkyl (PFAS) are non-natural chemicals with celebrated heat and water resistance properties. Because of this, PFAS have been extensively used in firefighting services, not only in firefighting gear but also for firefighting foams used in combating chemical fires. Although these substances are highly effective, PFAS are also linked with several health problems, including cancers and endocrine issues.

Shock and awe. That is the military jargon for what U.S. citizens are currently experiencing. Rapid-fire executive orders (some that are clearly illegal) are shocking in their numbers and their audacity. They are deliberately meant to overwhelm the capacity of citizens to think clearly and thoughtfully. Destabilize. Disrupt. Dishearten. Convince those who disagree that they are now completely powerless.
