We'll enjoy a nice break from the active weather for our Wednesday, as highs will be in the 80s. An area of high pressure will be passing through, resulting in very dry conditions. Across the plains, the fire danger will increase due to gusty winds and warmer temperatures, with sustained winds between 10 and 20 mph. On Thursday, southwest flow starts to develop over Montana, leading to increasing clouds and some PM showers and thunderstorms.

We've had some nasty storms the past several days across central Montana, but we will finally get a break from the active weather. Today, there will be a few isolated, non-severe thunderstorms east of I-15 as temperatures warm into the upper 70s to mid 80s. A weak area of high pressure will move over the region on Wednesday and Thursday, bringing beautiful, summer-like weather for the final days of spring. Temperatures will reach the 80s in most towns and cities.

Over the weekend, a series of thunderstorms rolled across parts of Montana, causing some property damage. One storm that developed over Teton County brought damaging wind gusts, funnel clouds, and golf-ball to grapefruit-sized hail to portions of central Montana on Sunday. We had an incredibly busy Father's Day with 116 storm reports across Montana on Sunday! A confirmed tornado was spotted north of Roundup, and two funnel clouds were documented—one near Vaughn and another near Geraldine. The largest hailstone measured 3.5 inches in diameter near Petrolia Lake in Petroleum County. The strongest wind gust recorded was 81 mph in Miles City. The heaviest rainfall was 1.32 inches in under 90 minutes, also in Miles City.
