••• The Win-Dow, the L.A. burger import at the corner of Chapala and Ortega, has had a crowd outside ever since it opened—and with only one cashier, it may be designed that way. (Nothing implies quality quite like a line.) Some first impressions: 1) The place is cheap, which has to be a factor in its success. We live in a weird world when the meat-free burger, made with Impossible patty, costs twice as much as one with beef.

Noteworthy new listings…. 405 Toro Canyon Road ($18.5 million), the 1930 compound on the 15.75 acres at the intersection of Foothill Road, was designed by Gordon Kaufmann, architect of the Hoover Dam, the Los Angeles Times building, Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, and more. While the stables might be in acceptable condition, the main house and three guest houses all need to be redone, and livability will inevitably take a backseat to the romance embedded in every detail.

I’ve longed to see Machu Picchu since I first learned of it however many decades ago, and the desire surged when Explora opened a lodge in Peru’s Sacred Valley in 2016. My husband, Adam, and I are huge fans of the company. I first experienced it in Chile’s Atacama Desert in the 1990s, and since then, we’ve gone to two of the Patagonia lodges and on an expedition (no longer offered) from Salta, Argentina, over the Andes to the Atacama.

••• San Luis Obispo–based Thrifty Beaches—”a sustainability-focused vintage clothing and furniture store”—is opening in the former RH space at 710 State Street. According to the SLO Tribune, the shop should open in the next couple of weeks; building owner SIMA, which has long been working on redeveloping that site with a hotel, says the lease is through September 2027. Of note: Thrifty Beaches will buy items.
