Foreign-born citizens in the city of Oulu in northern Finland have said they feel unsafe after stabbings police suspect may have been motivated by racism. The two attacks took place in the main shopping centre in Oulu over the course of one week. On 13 June, a 33-year-old local man, a former member of the banned neo-Nazi group the Nordic Resistance Movement, is alleged to have attacked a 12-year-old boy of foreign background. He is also accused of attempting to attack a 14-year-old.

Pentti Pieski, a translator and tourism entrepreneur from Utsjoki in the far north of Finland, loves going out in his boat to fish for wild Atlantic salmon. For the past three years, however, he hasn't been able to go, as Finland and Norway have banned salmon fishing on River Teno to protect depleted stocks. For Pieski, there is a double loss.
