In online dating, I often see two competing factors:1. People genuinely want to meet someone great (or at least they think they do). 2. People are lazy and don't take the time to do online dating well … or at all. This conversation happened to a client of mine (the woman in this exchange) on Bumble:Her: Do you still drink iced coffee in the winter? (Note: His profile mentioned his love of iced coffee.)Him: I do!Her: I like the dedication! Any other anomalies I should know?

We’ve all been there: Someone we don’t know extremely well — maybe a work colleague or friend of a friend — sends a biting text that immediately causes you to raise your eyebrows. You may ask friends, “Hey...what do you think this means?” Internally, you’re debating whether you should ever talk to this person again ... or if it was simply sarcasm. I recently came across the Bumble profile of a 41-year-old woman with a pretty smile and interesting photos.

Every May, I fly from New York to Austin, Texas, to compete in the annual O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships. Yes, this is a thing … and it’s serious. I’ve now attended five times and have twice come home with a third-place medal and once with a first-place trophy. Win or lose (though hopefully win — fingers crossed!), I know I’m going to have a good time. Why? Because the entire weekend is filled with like-minded nerds who love words … like me.
