If you were out and about early Monday morning you likely had to bundle up as the temperature dipped near the freezing mark. The cold conditions weren't just unseasonal, they were also record-breaking. Rob Kuhn with Environment Canada says a low of 0.1 degree Celsius was recorded in Waterloo Region around 6 a.m. The minimum temperature beats the old record low for June 2, which was 1.1 degree Celsius. The previous record was set almost 100 years ago in 1927.

School is almost out for summer but that means school food programs will also be winding down. The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is hoping to fill the gap through its 7th annual Full Bellies, Happy Hearts campaign. CEO Kim Wilhelm says they continue to see a record-breaking need for food assistance and more than 30 per cent are children.

Safety in downtown Kitchener was the focus of a second townhall after businesses shared concerns about issues like crime and growing homelessness. The first 'downtown safety' townhall happened in January and a second meeting was held this week where businesses got an update on the progress so far. The initiative has been spearheaded by the Downtown Kitchener Business Improvement Area (BIA) which teamed up with the City of Kitchener, Region of Waterloo, and Waterloo Regional Police.

You can defy gravity in downtown Kitchener next month at a Wicked sing-along. The City of Kitchener is hosting an outdoor screening of the hit musical turned Oscar-winning movie. The event is scheduled for Saturday, June 7 at Carl Zehr Square and it's expected to be Popular. Anyone attending the sing-along is encouraged to belt their hearts out and be prepared to be Dancing Through Life.
