Orlando Pirates will have a new captain in the upcoming season following the ‘departure’ of Innocent Maela. Maela played his final game for the Buccaneers in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw at home against Magesi FC. The 32-year-old has 208 officials games under belt as a Pirates player. He scored six times and provided 12 assists. Interim coach Mandla Ncikazi has already confirmed that Maela will be taking a different direction to his football career.

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi has revealed that the club has already started with their recruitment process. Amakhosi are set to make wholesale changes to their playing personnel ahead of next season. Nabi admitted several times that Chiefs don’t have enough quality players for his project to take shape. And having now concluded the season where Chiefs finished outside the top eight for the second year in a row, Nabi said new players are coming.

Mamelodi Sundowns have tied down utility player Aubrey Modiba for the upcoming season as his contract was set to expire. Modiba has been with Sundowns for five years having joined them from crosstown rivals SuperSport United. The 29-year-old left-footed player has become an important member of this Sundowns team over the years. Now, SABC Sport reports that Sundowns had until 31 May to trigger a one-year option they had on Modiba’s contract.

Former South African Football Association (SAFA) Technical Director Walter Steenbok has dropped another bombshell. Steenbok left SAFA in March – two-and-a-half-years into this contract with the association after enduring a difficult period. Speaking to Andile Ncube on Metro FM on Thursday, Steenbok revealed that his salary as SAFA’s Technical Director was equivalent to what the association is paying for Hugo Broos’ rent.

Pyramids FC star striker Fiston Mayele has confirmed interest from Kaizer Chiefs for his services. Mayele spilled the beans ahead of his side’s CAF Champions League final first leg against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday. Kick-off at Loftus Versfeld Stadium is at 15:00. Now, speaking to reporters as per SABC Sport, Mayele admitted he received a call from Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi in December 2024.
