US government scientists said they expect an above-normal hurricane season in 2025, producing three to five major hurricanes with sustained winds of at least 179km/h. The Atlantic hurricane season, which begins on June 1, is forecast to produce 13 to 19 named tropical storms with winds of at least 63km/h, according to the US National Weather Service. Of those storms, six to 10 are forecast to become hurricanes with winds of 120km/h or higher.

Brent crude futures settled at $64.78 a barrel, up 34 cents, or 0.54%. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures finished at $61.53, up 33 cents, or 0.54%.

Talks to end the largest U.S. refinery strike in 35 years are not expected to resume this week, sources familiar with the negotiations said on Monday after the number of plants hit by walkouts increased over the weekend. Face-to-face meetings between the United Steelworkers union (USW) and lead refinery owner representative Shell Oil Co, the U.S. arm of Royal Dutch Shell Plc (RYDAF), might remain on hold until the second week of March, the sources said.
