Since Donald Trump’s election victory, the president-elect has started to announce some of his picks for key positions in his cabinet. Some of Trump’s picks have sparked controversy, starting with Matt Gaetz for Attorney General. Gaetz, now a former member of Congress after he resigned following Trump’s nomination, was under investigation by the House Ethics Committee over an incident where Gaetz allegedly had a sexual relationship with a 17 year old.

The result of the Presidential Election on Nov. 5 was a major win for the GOP as they seized control of the presidency, moved to a majority in the United States Senate and have now slimly reclaimed the House of Representatives. Since then, president-elect Donald Trump has given more insight on what the first days of his administration may look like and has begun announcing picks for his cabinet. Earlier last week, Trump appointed Stephen Miller and Thomas Homan to his cabinet.

Former president Donald Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election against Vice President Kamala Harris early Wednesday morning with 277 electoral votes after the Associated Press called the state of Wisconsin and the race. Wisconsin also helped the presidential nominee secure the presidency in 2016. The president-elect's final electoral vote total sits at 312.

Mic McGuire is running for election in Kansas House District 6 as a member of the democratic party – he’s also an alumnus of Emporia State. A former pastor for the Methodist church and a former Opera performer, McGuire was born in Atchison, Kan. but moved to Emporia in first grade. He later attended ESU where he majored in music and also met his wife, Pam. “I can say that (the experience at ESU) was great for me,” McGuire said. “I was a music major.

With the Presidential Election just weeks away, the race is a toss up with both candidates at a stalemate. However, there is more to this election cycle than just the presidential election. Yard signs exclaiming support for each side's candidates have sprung up and so have the political ads for candidates in the running, but it can be hard to remember all the names and positions of each candidate running this year.
