By Ethan Hurwitz For The Sun Chronicle FOXBORO - The only thing that Foxboro High pitcher Nolan Gordon does off the field to prepare for his starts is hydrate and stay rested. She ran to grab some athletic training gauze. The little plush Bobcat doll that sits in Quinnipiac’s dugout, named “Boomie” for being a mini Boomer, was on life support.

By Ethan HurwitzBefore the national media caught wind of what was about to happen, a small group of Ivy League student-athletes got a ding on their phones. “I sent a quick text to our executive team … ‘Hey, check your emails,” said Alec Dominguez, Ivy League assistant executive director of compliance and governance. “They also knew what was going on. Well, the decision was going to be made that day.”Leah Carey’s girlfriend saw that text first.
