The redesign of a city square has made it unsafe for people with limited sight, a blind campaigner had said. Dave Steele, from Prestwich, said Stevenson Square in Manchester was now filled with hazards. The 48-year-old said obstacles such as concrete blocks meant it was no longer "a safe place for people like me". Manchester City Council said it wanted the square to be "inclusive" and "accessible", but the new scheme was not yet "fully signed off".

A mother whose son died after choking on a sensory ball has called for clearer warnings on toys used by people with learning disabilities. Louis Rawlinson, 27, died six days after the 6.5cm ball became lodged in his throat in July 2023. His mother Andrea Buckley, from Heywood, said she was determined to make sure another family does not suffer the same heartache. The government said firms were legally required to ensure products were safe.
