    Commuter parking in streets near Leighton Buzzard Railway Station is making life ‘hell’ for residents, a meeting heard. An 82-signature petition is asking for 24-hour residents’ permit parking on Southcourt Avenue, Southcourt Road and Barnabas Road. It calls for parking restrictions to be adopted which are in use on other nearby roads already, according to the petition published in a Central Bedfordshire Council traffic management meeting agenda.

    A hotel extension has been approved near London Luton Airport and it is expected to provide up to 20 full-time jobs and nearly 90 extra rooms, a meeting has been told. An extension to the back of the Holiday Inn hotel, at London Luton Airport, will provide almost 90 more rooms on a 2,700sqm area, the borough council’s development management committee was told. The hotel expansion is on “a brownfield” section of the premises in Luton, a meeting heard.

    Two Leighton Buzzard parishes dating back 1,000 years are battling to preserve their way of life against “a foreign mining giant’s multi-million pound expansion plans”, a councillor has warned. Aggregate Industries UK Ltd wants to expand its operations to the south of Grovebury Quarry lake, citing a national need for silica sand. Its proposals would postpone any recreational use of the site for at least another decade.
