Fagerson’s absence is a massive loss to Franco Smith with the tighthead prop widely regarded as one of the best in the world. Fagerson was part of the Lions touring squad in South Africa in 2021 and he was almost guaranteed a spot in Andy Farrell’s group to be announced on Thursday but Fagerson is in a fitness race to return for Glasgow during the play-offs.

The capital side put up a brave fight against the English Premiership leaders but the visitor’s power was too much in the second half as Edinburgh fell to a 39-24 defeat. Bath were trailing at the start of the second half and had a man sin binned but Edinburgh eventually crumbled under pressure from their physical pack.
