Fagerson’s absence is a massive loss to Franco Smith with the tighthead prop widely regarded as one of the best in the world. Fagerson was part of the Lions touring squad in South Africa in 2021 and he was almost guaranteed a spot in Andy Farrell’s group to be announced on Thursday but Fagerson is in a fitness race to return for Glasgow during the play-offs.
