The White House wants Israel to allow more aid into Gaza and implement humanitarian ceasefires within thirty days. If they don’t, the US has threatened to withhold military aid to the country. That’s according to a leaked letter sent over the weekend by secretary of state Anthony Blinken and defense secretary Lloyd Austin in which they set out a short but punchy list of demands. The letter’s unusually harsh tone seems to be motivated by domestic pre-election pressure on the Democratic Party.

After confidentially briefing it around various Western capitals, President Zelensky has unveiled — to a degree — his much-trailed “victory plan” to the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine’s parliament. His statement on the plan came ahead of today’s meeting with the European Council. Along with three additional secret codicils shared only with certain partners, the plan has five main points. In and of themselves, none of them are implausible, and all would certainly strengthen Ukraine’s security.

The Biden campaign, and by proxy, the Biden White House, released an unusual ransom list of debate conditions that the media and Trump campaign must meet for there to be any presidential debates this year. The list of demands include dissolving the Commission on Presidential Debates, a move that the media just one president ago stated would erode trust in the American media. Other demands include no live studio audience and cutting microphones for other participants.

When Britain’s prime minister, Rishi Sunak, told the House of Commons that “there is going to be a general election in the second half of this year,” nervous Tory members spotted a problem: that could mean the fourth of July, which the prime minister has now announced will be the election date.

Rishi Sunak has chosen to go for a summer election. The UK prime minister has confirmed in an address to the nation this evening that the 2024 general election will be held on July 4. It comes after speculation since this morning that Sunak planned to roll the dice and go to the polls in the summer rather than wait for the fall.

The video featured hypothetical news headlines about Trump winning the November election, overlaid on newspapers with smaller, less visible headlines. One of those other headlines touted a “unified reich,” which was too perfect for some Trump haters to resist. Trump shared a Nazi-esque headline on his own social media account?

The MidwestNotre Dame is not an Ivy League university and, in what I assume is some sort of intentional point, its buildings tend to be ivy-free. Perhaps it is the absence of ivy, perhaps I am just flat after a long day’s drive across Ohio and Indiana, perhaps it’s just winter, but the campus seems more sterile than I had expected. It’s Good Friday, and my friend Margot is studying classical architecture here. She’s showing me around the grounds. I don’t really know what I’d hoped to see.
