For much of her memory, the women of Marie Adam-Leenaerdt’s family—her mother, her mother’s mother—all wore heels. Her maternal grandmother, “a super strong woman,” owned a shoe collection that became one of the Belgian designer’s earliest obsessions, and only stopped wearing them when her advanced age wouldn’t allow for it. Having been a judge on the wildly popular 2001 Channel 4 series Model Behaviour, the veteran casting director says he’s used to “van drivers driving past calling me a wanker and stuff”—which is to say little can make him sweat. But casting 220 nonmodels in a spectacular Rick Owens show in the high summer heat of Paris did raise Munro’s pulse slightly.

Her latest In Our Elemental collection - shown with her third appearance at SA Fashion Week’s Spring/Summer 2024 season and as part of the Fashion Bridges project with the Italian embassy - was a futuristic commentary on the interconnectedness of all beings and our collective potential.

Hair and makeup artist Janina Zais and fashion photographer Eva Losada’s latest collaborative project, A Natural Reflection, was born out of their participation in Palm Heights’ Open Palm residency programme. Shot on location in Grand Cayman, the short film was inspired by the creatures of the coral reef — with models meticulously painted to emulate various underwater organisms.
