They have X number of planes going to and from Y number of locations carrying Z number of passengers. But there is only W amount of time available in a day. That time though is not equal to 24 hours. Instead, you have to think that there are pockets of time spread throughout the network. If a plane is on time, then it consumes a certain amount of time, if it is delayed then it eats up more time.

Evan Johnson·Follow20 min read·--In 2011 the Italian historian Guido Alfani published a paper called “The Famine of the 1590s in Northern Italy” in which he focused on the concept of ‘system shock.’ For Alfani, a system shock is an event so severe that the structures designed to handle such events are overwhelmed. Think of a levee designed to stand up to a 100-year flood but which collapses when a 1000-year flood occurs.

This company mostly made regional jets but decided to take a swing at making a regular narrow-body. They called this jet the C Series. Because the global aviation industry is a racket cornered by Boeing and Airbus, the C Series struggled to get orders. At one point they basically sold 70 to Air Canada for 2 nickels.
