Diamondbacks 11, Rockies 4PHOENIX (Aug. 14) — After losing two straight winnable games, the Colorado Rockies made one mistake after another en route to a blowout loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks Wednesday afternoon. The loss meant a three-game sweep, the sixth that the Rockies have fallen victim to in 2024. Rockies starting pitcher Tanner Gordon did not survive the first inning, facing nine hitters and allowing four runs (three earned) while recording two outs.

Diamondbacks 4, Rockies 3PHOENIX (Aug. 13) — Jake McCarthy slapped a two-out, two-strike, two-run opposite-field single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Arizona Diamondbacks a walk-off victory over the Colorado Rockies Tuesday night. McCarthy’s heroics took a much-deserved victory away from Rockies starter Austin Gomber. Gomber scattered six hits over six innings, allowing two runs while walking one and striking out four.

Rockies 2, Angels 1ANAHEIM, Calif. (Jul. 31) — A Brenton Doyle homer in the eighth inning, combined with strong pitching performances from Kyle Freeland, Tyler Kinley, and Victor Vodnik led the Colorado Rockies past the Los Angeles Angels, 2–1, Wednesday night. Freeland scattered six hits across seven innings, allowing one run while striking out six. “Freeland is a pretty good pitcher,” Angels manager Ron Washington told reporters in the postgame press conference.

It was the sixth-coldest home game in Rockies history, but it only iced the bats of the hosts, as the Mariners smacked 15 hits. Cal Raleigh got the Mariners on the board in the top of the second with a leadoff homer off Rockies starter Dakota Hudson.

(Mar. 12) — A two-run single by Elias Diaz, combined with a two-run homer by Coco Montes, gave the Colorado Rockies a 4–2 Cactus League victory over the visiting Kansas City Royals Tuesday afternoon at Salt River Fields. The Royals took a 2–0 lead in the top of the first off Rockies right-hander Cal Quantrill. Bobby Witt, Jr. singled to center. Vinnie Pasquantino followed with a single, with Witt being called out for interference after being hit by the grounder.

Rockies 6, Rangers 6 (Tie)SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Mar. 6) — The Colorado Rockies and Texas Rangers played a back-and-forth game Wednesday afternoon at Salt River Fields, ultimately settling for a 6–6 tie. Davis Wendzel batted 2-for-2 with two RBI for the visiting Rangers, with home runs from Adolis Garcia and Blaine Crim adding to the scoring. The Rockies only had one extra-base hit, that being a two-run double from Brendan Rodgers, but Ryan McMahon, Bradley Zimmer, and Aaron Schunk each had RBI singles.

A combination of the new rules and the younger, speedier players coming up across the league has made stolen bases see a bigger role in games. With teams like the Cincinnati Reds and pennant-winning Arizona Diamondbacks showing how much of a weapon stolen bases can be, teams naturally will respond, and the Rockies will be one of them.

Two Diamondbacks, Two Padres, Three Cubs Earn NL Gold GlovesThe Rawlings Gold Glove winners were announced Sunday night. In the National League, three Chicago Cubs, two Arizona Diamondbacks, and two San Diego Padres were among the winners, as was a rookie. In addition, the Colorado Rockies, Philadelphia Phillies, and Pittsburgh Pirates had one player each earn Gold Glove honors. Seven of the ten NL honorees are first-time winners.
