Jason Licht has never been afraid of making draft trades during his time as the general manager of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, especially in the first round. Of his four first-round trades, Licht moved back three times and moved up once. The lone ascension was the decision to trade up from No. 14 to No. 13 in order to grab Tristan Wirfs in the 2020 NFL Draft and we all know how that turned out. The three times he moved back, he nabbed Vita Vea, Logan Hall, and Vernon Hargreaves.

Let's just be real: The Washington Commanders' track record in the NFL Draft was abhorrent under former head coach Ron Rivera and former general manager Martin Mayhew. It is so bad that the four first-round picks made from 2020-2023 are no longer with the team. Two of the four were released and two were traded away. On top of that, only a handful of the 33 total picks actually made a positive impact on the team.

Welker also has connections with Adam Peters due to their time in both New England and Denver and was Kliff Kingsbury's teammate at Texas Tech. Welker was one of the game's better receivers during his time in the NFL. Over the span of 12 seasons, he logged 903 receptions for 9,924 yards and 50 touchdowns. He earned five straight Pro Bowl nods from 2008-2012 and he also logged four All-Pro nods, as well.

We are just barely more than three weeks away from the NFL Draft and the Washington Commanders' path for that weekend is a lot more clear than it was at season's end. The franchise's moves in free agency really helped with the big picture, as decisions like the Deebo Samuel/Laremy Tunsil trades and Javon Kinlaw/Will Harris/Jonathan Jones signings (along with others) filled key roles that were in need. At this point, it's fair to say the Commanders' top two needs are edge rusher and cornerback.

At one point, a lot of people were wondering about Jamel Dean's immedaite future with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Bucs needed to create some cap space ahead of free agency and based off Dean's contract, which is in its penultimate year, Jason Licht would've opened up nearly $8.3 million by releasing the former third-round pick.
