1. IntroductionWhen functional vision is impaired in the central part of the visual field where acuity is highest, it is often reported by the individual and confirmed by a simple acuity test. This is particularly true if the vision loss occurs in both eyes. However when vision loss occurs in only one eye or in non-overlapping parts of the two eyes, visual fields are largely intact and the vision loss may go unnoticed.
