Rangers are under new ownership after an American consortium, including 49ers Enterprises, completed a deal to buy 51% of the club late on Thursday night. Andrew Cavenagh becomes the new chairman at Ibrox, with Paraag Marathe, the president of 49ers Enterprises and chairman of Leeds, the vice-chairman. The Scottish Football Association has approved the takeover, with the club keen to stress they are not part of a multi-club model.

History repeated itself in such wonderful fashion for Aberdeen. In 1990, they took delivery of the Scottish Cup after a penalty shoot out victory over Celtic. Thirty five years on, in defying all odds, Aberdeen did it again. Jimmy Thelin and his class of 2025 have written themselves into Pittodrie folklore. Celtic will have to make do with a domestic double, a scenario few thought probable before a ball was kicked here.

There is periodic chatter over whether alcohol should be sold on concourses at Scottish football grounds. In public, clubs want to be seen to treat customers as adults. In private, they see the commercial benefit of flogging pints with pies. Punters noisily bemoan treatment as second-class citizens – you can have a beer while watching Scottish rugby – when in reality too many of them act in a manner befitting that status.
