Train 2 of the facility has a nameplate lithium hydroxide capacity for 21,500 tonnes per year, the company source said. Low levels of production were already underway for testing purposes, but commercial production levels will ramp up in early December, adding to the existing lithium hydroxide capacity from Train 1, which also has a nameplate capacity for 21,500 tpy.

Prices were also buoyed by the rise in lithium carbonate futures prices on the Guangzhou Futures Exchange (GFEX) futures over the past week. But the futures market closed down on November 6, which some sources attributed to the US election results. “The GFEX fell in the last half an hour before today’s close, due to [President-elect] Donald Trump’s election win, which has dampened market sentiment. Our bids to spodumene also fell following GFEX across the day,” one Asia-based trader said.

Eramine Sudamerica is Eramet’s subsidiary responsible for managing the company’s lithium mining and extraction activities in the region. Eramet and Tsingshan had previously partnered on the Centenario project, beginning construction of a lithium carbonate extraction plant in October 2021 after a successful pilot plant run since 2019. The facility, inaugurated in July 2024, has a nameplate capacity of 24,000 tonnes per year of battery-grade lithium carbonate.
