eLife assessment This manuscript is an important contribution, assessing the role of intraspecific consumer interference in maintaining diversity using a mathematical model. Consistent with long-standing ecological theory, the authors convincingly show that predator interference allows for the coexistence of multiple species on a single resource, beyond the competitive exclusion principle. Notably, the model matches observed rank-abundance curves in several natural ecosystems.

AbstractThe complexity of biological systems has increasingly been unraveled through computational methods, with biological network analysis now focusing on the construction and exploration of well-defined interaction networks. Traditional graph-theoretical approaches have been instrumental in mapping key biological processes using high-confidence interaction data. However, these methods often struggle with incomplete or/and heterogeneous datasets.

AbstractLight encodes multidimensional information, such as intensity, polarization, and spectrum. Traditional extraction of this light information requires discrete optical components by subdividing the detection area into many “one-to-one” functional pixels. The broadband photodetection of high-dimensional optical information with a single integrated on-chip detector is highly sought after, yet it poses significant challenges.
