Members of the EMPD were recently deployed to monitor some routes in the northern region of the City of Ekurhuleni following incidents of intimidation and harassment, allegedly by taxi operators. This comes after the MMC for Roads and Transport Clr Andile Mngwevu recently received reports of acts of intimidation on the Kempton Park and Thembisa routes. The city calls for co-operation amongst taxi associations and scholar transport operators in the city.

The CoE discourages community members from making and installing speed humps near roads on which they live. According to Zweli Dlamini, the CoE spokesperson, an application form obtained from the Roads and Transport Management Department has all the information about applying for traffic calming measures. “The process takes 28 days to do the warranted investigations. Once warranted, speed humps are put on a priority list for construction (subject to budget allocation).

St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls in Boksburg will be a hive of activity tomorrow (April 12) when the Gauteng Majorette and Cheerleading Association (GMCA) hosts the Knight of Champions Majorette and Cheerleading provincial competition. The competition kicks off at 08:00, with cheerleading and majorettes taking to two separate fields simultaneously. Spectators are invited to cheer on their favourite majorette troupes as they put their talents on display.

The Reiger Park policing precinct reported experiencing a notable rise in murder cases on weekends. According to the Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Constable Johannes Msimanga, the spike started in February this year. Without sharing the exact figures, Msimanga said most of the reported deadly incidents occurred during the early hours, and the victims were mostly people returning home from local taverns.
