De eerste keer dat ik Libanon bezocht was ik een lachebekje met (toen al) dezelfde bos donkere krullen als mijn vader, die, enkele dagen na mijn geboorte, Nederland werd uitgezet. Hij verbleef hier als illegale vluchteling met een Italiaanse vrouw en ondanks het feit dat er al zeven jaar lang een hevige burgeroorlog woedde in zijn thuisland mocht hij niet blijven. Hij miste mij vreselijk en de familie in Libanon wilde deze kleine spruit ook graag ontmoeten.
