The majority of white commercial farmers who were dispossessed of their land during Zimbabwe’s chaotic Land Reform Programme have dismissed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent $3.1m compensation announcement as a publicity stunt aimed at currying favour with US President Donald Trump. On 9 April, finance minister Mthuli Ncube issued a statement claiming the government had paid $3.1m for the first batch of 378 repossessed farms, just 1% of the total $311m earmarked for compensation.
