Former prime minister and former senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz member Shahid Khaqan Abbasi formally launched his long-awaited political party, Awam Pakistan, on Saturday. The party has long been rumoured since Abbasi apparently fell out with the PML-N leadership last year.

It is election year in the USA, but a New York jury has thrown a spanner in the works with its historic verdict against former president Donald Trump. The Republican became the first US president to ever be convicted of felony crimes, when he was found guilty of all 34 charges in a scheme to illegally influence the 2016 presidential elections through hush money payments to a porn actor who had confessed to having sexual relations with Trump. His sentencing is now scheduled for July 11.

With 16 MNAs (plus four reserved seats), Balochistan’s representation in Pakistan’s parliament is lower than that of Karachi and Lahore, constituting only 5.9 per cent of the total directly elected representatives in the National Assembly.
