INTRODUCTION Aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems are closely interconnected through the reciprocal provisioning of cross-ecosystem resources to recipient consumers (Bartels et al., 2012; Polis et al., 1997). While research has historically focussed on the influence of terrestrial resources on aquatic ecosystems, the importance of aquatic resources for terrestrial consumers is now well recognized (Schindler & Smits, 2017).
