The quiet acquisition of popular Muslim dating app Salams by a pro-Israel company is sending shockwaves across the digital world. The deal — which closed in late 2023 and was only recently made public in an earnings report — is igniting calls to boycott the app, which has well over six million users. The original app — which was originally customized for the Muslim market — was also replaced with a generic dating app that is similar to the company’s platforms for Black and Latino communities.

A new barbecue restaurant appears to be coming soon to Herndon. A site plan for Herndon Parkway Center indicates that a “Kanoon Restaurant” will open in the space at 1106 Herndon Parkway that was vacated last year by The Lobster, a Thai street food restaurant. The Burn reports that the newcomer will be Kanoon Smokehouse, a New Jersey-based restaurant that serves American barbecue with a “Middle Eastern twist,” according to its website.

New interpretative signs are headed to Riverbend Park in Great Falls and Ellanor C. Lawrence Park in Chantilly next month as part of an initiative to promote poetry in Fairfax County’s park system. Set to be unveiled next Friday, Nov. 1, the signs will showcase poems selected by outgoing Fairfax County Poet Laureate Danielle Badra for both of the locations. The placards will contain writing prompts and a call for visitors to submit creative writing, poetry and illustrations.

Bobby’s Bagel Cafe is shuttering its doors at North Point Village Center in Reston, but the closure will come one month later than originally estimated. Business representative Nishi Arora tells FFXnow that the shop will now close on Nov. 30 instead of Oct. 31. As previously reported, Bobby’s Bagel Cafe is set to be replaced by the D.C.-based deli Call Your Mother, which expanded its Northern Virginia presence with an opening in Vienna this week.
