    An RIT faculty member helped redesign an infamous clock that made international headlines this week—and the body of the clock was printed in RIT’s SHED. Juan Noguera, assistant professor in RIT’s School of Design, and Tom Weis, associate department head at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) and founder of Altimeter Design Group, redesigned the “Doomsday Clock,” a symbolic attempt to assess how close humanity is to destroying the world.

    Linguists face a resource gap for studying visual prosody and its grammatical and emotional functions in sign languages, and for creating AI systems capable of processing visual prosody. Cecilia Alm and Allison Fitch, College of Liberal Arts faculty members affiliated with RIT’s PhD program in Cognitive Science, aim to fill that gap through Deaf scientist-centered research.

    WXXI continues to spotlight the work of students and alumni from RIT’s School of Film and Animation through RIT Shorts, a biannual short film series. The next edition of RIT Shorts premieres at 9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, on WXXI-TV, and it will be streamed live on the WXXI app. The collection of short films will be featured again at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, and at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26.

    Izzy Moyer ’24 (museum studies) returned from her first trip to Dubrovnik in 2023 with fond memories of exploring the rocky coasts and deep history of Croatia. She had traveled there as a student to deliver a Multispectral Imaging System for Historical Artifacts (MISHA) to The State Archives as part of a larger initiative led by professors Juilee Decker and David Messinger.
