Recent disruption to Britain’s rail network, caused by a fault in its outdated nationwide radio system, was more than just an inconvenience for thousands of commuters. It was a stark reminder of how far the UK has fallen behind in its critical infrastructure. Microlens array scanning (MLAS) has emerged as a promising semi-solid micromechanical beam scanning technology, which has significant potential in fields such as LIDAR and free-space optical communication. Beam quality is a crucial performance index in MLAS, which directly affects the overall performance of the system.
