IntroductionChronic inflammation significantly contributes to the progression of the neurodegenerative process in Parkinson’s disease (PD) (Rocha et al., 2015). Inflammatory changes in affected brain regions of PD patients have a detrimental effect on neurons (Tansey et al., 2022). Increased levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the brain and cerebrospinal fluid may promote neuron degeneration (Tansey et al., 2022).
