In my previous blog post, I analyzed the recent inflation episode. Inflation, which was and remains a broad-based phenomenon, peaked in mid-2022 and has since declined sharply, though progress toward the Federal Reserve’s 2% target may have recently stalled. Five years after the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, prices are 10% above their prepandemic trend. In this post, I will argue that inflation was primarily the product of the fiscal deficits incurred in response to the pandemic.

Years ago, I was looking for a Bible study group. While taking a walk, I came across a sign advertising exactly that!I had to check it out. It turned out to be a Neocatechumenal way meeting, a catholic cult that follows a charismatic leader. The priest gave a long speech about the founder and refused to answer my questions. When I was asked, I said I wouldn't meet them again. They said God wanted me to be there and that their lives had improved by joining the cult. I never went back.
