Destiny 2 is one of the most successful modern live-service shooters for a reason, and the infamous “Bungie magic” (i.e., the satisfying core gameplay loop) is most definitely a part of that equation. Yet, Destiny’s failures are many, and Gambit, in particular, stands out like a sore thumb. Destiny 2‘s Gambit is one of those oh-so-popular PvPvE game modes you get in high-profile titles every so often.

It came as a bit of a surprise, but this year’s Destiny 2 Guardian Games ended up being one of the very best iterations of the event, bar none. That’s all thanks to the phenomenal Rushdown mode, featuring Destiny 2‘s best boss fights in a mad dash to the end. The thing about Rushdown Mode is that it can get a fair bit challenging at the highest difficulty settings, though.

Though it doesn’t happen often, every once in a while I’ll spot a gameplay trailer for a game and immediately be sold on the concept, right off the bat. The latest example of that being the case for me is Beta Decay, an indie horror RPG dystopia with PSX-era graphics. No, no, you read that right: Beta Decay is deliberately styled after games from the original PlayStation era.

Had anyone showed me Cruelty Squad just a few years back and told me it would be one of the best ImSim titles ever, I’d have laughed in their face. Today, I get it. It just clicked. Thing is, Cruelty Squad‘s getting an Early Access sequel, and it’s even weirder. Putting Cruelty Squad into sensible terms is impossible. It’s an objectively ugly game.

Destiny 2 is a solid game most of the time, but I do not blame you in the slightest if you’re interested in jumping off that particular hamster wheel every so often. Heck, I did precisely that, and Destiny used to be a massive obsession of mine for five years. The thing about Destiny 2, though, is that its astonishingly good combat gameplay and loot grind coddles you.

I’d say I’m not one for nostalgia, but that’d be a bold-faced lie. When I saw that the legendary Painkiller was being revived by none other than 3D Realms and Saber Interactive, I was thrilled. Then, it struck me that I wasn’t sure if this was such a good idea. For those who haven’t kept up with mildly obscure legacy FPS franchises of yesteryear, the classic Painkiller games were a kind of an edgy Serious Sam ordeal.

In a suprising turn of events, TaleWorlds Entertainment has announced the first full-featured expansion pack for Mount & Blade 2: Bannerlord. Titled War Sails, this new DLC is supposed to introduce a whole new dimension of warfare to the sandbox strategy/RPG hybrid, but is it going to work out? Mount & Blade 2 has gone through a very long and arduous development process.

As you may or may not be aware by now, Helldivers 2 plays host to a pretty hefty number of guns. Big guns, small guns, laser guns… The funny thing is that they all share various attachments and doodads, so is there a customization system hiding somewhere in the background? The answer to that question should be obvious to anyone who’s ever taken a second glance at about two-thirds of Helldivers 2’s armory: yes.
