ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — When Alex Denholtz woke up Wednesday morning, his mother was gone. She’d just celebrated her 63rd birthday. Her name was Carolina Toradse-Denholtz. She’d been killed in a crash at US-1 and Pine Island Road, near Nocatee. He found out from alerts he got to his phone saying his mom had been in a crash. “She was the last person who deserved to die, and especially like this,” said Denhotlz. Denholtz came all the way from New York to Nocatee to be with his family.

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — A woman living in St. Augustine Shores just caught the second black bear sighting in three days in St. Johns County. Sheila Hicks-Besch’s house, where the bear was spotted crossing her yard on the doorbell camera, is only about 20 minutes south of where Action News Jax told you Tuesday about the first black bear sighting in downtown St. Augustine. “I had to look at it a second time to make sure I saw what I thought I saw,” said Hicks-Besch “and then I kind of found it amusing.

A simple “yes” from a Nassau County school librarian isn’t just causing a change in one of the local schools, but could be allowing more possibilities in school libraries around the country. It’s after she got a call from a mother in Fernandina Beach, Kasi DeStefano. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The sighting of a black bear in St. Johns County has become a honeypot for the people of Lincolnville. “Oh it was a beautiful bear, a beautiful bear,” said Joyce Vykes, who told Action News Jax she saw the black bear near the Pavilion at Bayview assisted senior living facility. “He’s almost like a pet!”The living facility is near the intersection of Marine Street and Hedrick Street in south Lincolnville.
